It is the clear polycarbonate outer shell of the headlight, also called headlight glass or headlamp lens. If the housing, projector and bulbs still work, replacing only the cover makes a yellow, cloudy or cracked headlight look new.

Strong UV, summer heat (especially in the south), dust and air pollution destroy the factory UV coating, and the polycarbonate oxidises. Polishing only removes the top layer, so haze usually returns within months.
